Steampunk-Infused Laughter: Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" at Bad Hersfelder Festivals - Rehearsals Kick off for The Show
Steampunk Interpretation of Shakespeare Begins for Festival - Commencement of Rehearsals - Steampunk reimagining of Shakespearean plays during rehearsals for upcoming festivals
Looking to lighten the spirits in these challenging times, outgoing artistic director Joern Hinkel is planning to serve up a delightful concoction of humor and music for this year's Bad Hersfelder Festivals, with a fresh, fantastical take on Shakespeare's comedy "A Midsummer Night's Dream".
"It's one of the first pieces of folklore filled with outlandish creatures," Hinkel shared during the start of rehearsals for the Shakespearean classic. In the Hersfeld adaptation, titled "Midsummer Dreams", characters from other Shakespeare works like Romeo and Juliet will roam the enchanted forest on stage and encounter unexpected surprises.
Among the cast members are TV detective Erol Sander ("Mordkommission Istanbul") and Anouschka Renzi, Bettina Hauenschild, Christian Nickel, and Helena Sigal.
A first for the festival, the grand orchestra will not just accompany a musical but also a play. The music specifically composed for "Midsummer Dreams" will add to the captivating experience.
Expect the unexpected
Hinkel, also set to direct, shared his ambition to make this already madcap play even crazier. It promises to be a "Hersfeld Midsummer Night" brimming with wild, erotic love stories and slapstick humor.
The characters' adventures will unfold within a Victorian royal court at the turn of the 20th century. The attire, inspired by Steampunk worlds, will be a dazzling fusion of Victorian elegance and technological oddities, such as aviator goggles, pocket watches, and leather corsets. The premiere is scheduled for June 20.
Schiller's "The Robbers" with music by Die Toten Hosen is also part of the event. Last year's success of the Broadway musical "A Chorus Line" and the production "Wie im Himmel" will be reprised.
Astrid Lindgren's classic "Ronja the Robber's Daughter" will come to life on stage as a family production during the festivals.

This Steampunk interpretation of William Shakespeare's classic, "A Midsummer Night's Dream," promises to captivate its audience with a unique blend of literature, music, and a touch of erotic love stories.
