Get Your Warhammer On, But Quick!

Here's a heads up, folks! Slitherine Software has announced that its Warhammer 40,000 titles - Warhammer 40,000: Armageddon and Warhammer 40,000: Sanctus Reach - will be disappearing from Steam on May 19. Without giving a clear reason, the publisher has made it known that these games and their DLCs will no longer be available for purchase on Steam or their own website from that date.

However, don't despair! These Warhammer games won't vaporize into the ether. You'll still be able to snag them from GOG.com. So if you're hankering for some 40K action, head over to GOG and grab 'em before May 19!

But what's the fuss about? Well, both games draw inspiration from the classic turn-based wargame Panzer General. Armageddon is a 2D, top-down gaming experience, while Sanctus Reach offers a more immersive 3D, grid-based experience. Both games have received positive reviews on Steam, even though the number of reviews for each isn't staggering – Armageddon has almost 900 reviews, and Sanctus Reach has just over 1,100.

In case you're wondering, Armageddon beats Sanctus Reach when it comes to PC Gamer's ranking of every Warhammer 40,000 game, placing at 17. Sanctus Reach, on the other hand, languishes at 36 out of 51 games. Critics have pointed out that Sanctus Reach is basic and nothing more than a by-the-numbers affair, with the presentation and scenario objectives built merely to get the job done.

Compare that to Armageddon, which ranks significantly higher on the list. Despite its 2D visuals, Armageddon better captures the scale and intensity of a 40K conflict. Set on a polluted hive world, it offers more intricate tactical scenarios where you'll have to make strategic decisions to split your forces, fortify positions, or flank the enemy.

Don't forget, these games are leaving Steam soon, but you can still grab Armageddon and its DLCs at an incredible 90% discount! For just $4 (£3.35), you can get your hands on the base game. If you want to maximize your 40K experience, DLCs will set you back an additional $9.89 (£8.43). With that in mind, it's clear that Armageddon is the superior choice.

With the exit of these games from Steam, the question arises – what new Warhammer games will take their place? Well, Games Workshop's annual Warhammer Skulls event is set to return next week, so maybe there'll be a few announcements! And we can't forget about Space Marine 3, which is officially in development, even if you won't be whacking Orks in Titus' power armor again for a few years yet.

Until next time, gamers!
