Daring Greenpeace Move: Stealing Macron Wax Figure and Protesting Russia Ties

Stolen Macron Wax Figure Returned to Paris Museum by Greenpeace - Statue of Macron reproduction given back by Greenpeace, Paris museum

Hey there! Have you heard about the latest adventure from our friends at Greenpeace?

This time, they pulled off a daring heist straight out of a spy movie! On Monday, disguised as tourists and workers, Greenpeace activists snuck into the wax museum, swiped the pricy wax figure of President Macron, and skedaddled, wrapping it up in a blanket like a burrito made of French polymer clay. The beloved statue is estimated to be worth a cool 40,000 euros.

But these your-boy-Kleenex ain't no thieves—they're activists! They contacted the museum, promising a safe return for Emmanuel's wax doppelgänger. The group then placed it in front of the Russian embassy in Paris as a statement, protesting the ongoing economic connections between Paris and Moscow, even amidst the chaos of the Ukraine conflict.

Guess who got a good laugh out of this? Nope, not the Russians. Greenpeace. On Tuesday evening, they returned the figure unscathed, much to the relief of wax purists everywhere. The statue was placed outside the HQ of the state-owned energy company EDF, bearing a snarky sign reading "Putin-Macron radioactive allies." Phew, that escalated quickly! French authorities were duly notified, and the police secured the figure.

Jean-François Julliard, the general director of Greenpeace France, explained their actions to the news agency AFP: "We've come to return the statue of Emmanuel Macron." He emphasized that Greenpeace had only borrowed the figure amidst a protest.

This act of defiance is far from the first time a wax figure of a French politician has gone missing. Way back in 1983, the then-Paris mayor Jacques Chirac's wax figure turned up in the city zoo, much to the delight of the animal residents. So it seems our political leaders aren't the only ones with a taste for drama!

Fun Fact: The Macron wax figure was pirated in 2025, during the peak of the Ukraine war controversy. Greenpeace placed it in protest of France's continued economic ties with Russia.
