In a united stand against foreign interference, the G7 Rapid Response Mechanism (RRM) and associate members have issued a joint statement condemning the Hong Kong Police Authorities' arrest warrants and bounties on overseas pro-democracy activists. The statement, issued on August 8, 2025, follows recent condemnations from the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, the European Union, Australia, and New Zealand.

The G7 RRM, which includes Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States, the European Union, Australia, the Netherlands, New Zealand, and Sweden, views these actions as instances of transnational repression that undermine national security, state sovereignty, human rights, and the safety of communities.

The statement labels the Hong Kong police's actions as aggressive foreign interference and calls for individuals to report any suspicious activities or incidents of intimidation, harassment, coercion, or threats related to these enforcement actions to their local law enforcement authorities, following domestic laws.

The G7 RRM and likeminded partners emphasize strengthening efforts to safeguard sovereignty and protect communities from government overreach aimed at silencing dissent outside their borders. They specifically address the arrest warrants and bounties issued against 19 pro-democracy activists, including those linked to the so-called “Hong Kong Parliament” group, for allegedly violating the Hong Kong National Security Law by promoting self-determination and subversion.

Hong Kong and Chinese authorities have strongly rejected these criticisms, describing the G7 statements as "false," "biased," and "slandering" their lawful efforts to pursue fugitives endangering national security. They stress that these are lawful prosecutions, not punishments for exercising freedom of expression, and are committed to holding suspects accountable regardless of their location.

The FCDO Newsdesk, part of the Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO) of the United Kingdom, is the primary point of contact for media enquiries regarding the G7 RRM. The G7 RRM and associates stand together in countering ongoing malign activities and are committed to strengthening their efforts to safeguard their sovereignty, keep their communities safe, and defend individuals from the overreach of foreign governments trying to silence, intimidate, harass, harm, or coerce them within their borders.
