Statement from Prosecutor Expected to Reveal Truth, as Believed by Bolaños
Rewritten Article:
Madrid, Jan 29 (EFE) - Spanish Minister Félix Bolañós expressed optimism that Attorney General Álvaro García Ortiz's upcoming testimony before the Supreme Court, amid allegations of breaching confidentiality in the Alberto González Amador case, would lead to greater transparency.
Bolañós, speaking in an interview with TVE, remained cautious about commenting on the Supreme Court judge Ángel Hurtado's decision to summon García Ortiz himself as an accused, citing the ongoing inquiry.
"I'm confident that García Ortiz's testimony will shed light on the situation and contribute positively to the clarification of the facts," Bolañós stated.
The minister's comments comes after the Spanish People's Party (PP) criticized the judicial investigation into García Ortiz, claiming they were launching attacks on journalists, officials, and the Tax Agency.
"Here, without hesitation, the PP is mercilessly attacking a prosecutor who spoke the truth and pursued the crime," Bolañós asserted.
In response to questions regarding the government's continued support for the prosecutor, Bolañós stated, "Justice will ultimately prevail." He added, "If the hypothesis that García Ortiz will be tried comes to pass, we're unsure at this time. At present, there's a critical juncture in the investigation with García Ortiz's upcoming testimony, which I'm confident will be informative for all parties involved."
García Ortiz enjoys the government's support, according to Bolañós, because "he did his job by pursuing the crime and telling the truth."
Government spokeswoman Pilar Alegría echoed her colleague's sentiment, expressing confidence in García Ortiz's testimony. "Now, what I can say is that, given the situation we find ourselves in with the Attorney General of the State, I feel like I'm living in a paranormal event," Alegría said.
She also questioned why García Ortiz's testimony is necessary to address the "rude hoax" allegations, while Ayuso's partner's testimony regarding an alleged half-million-euro tax fraud has been postponed multiple times.
