State Secretary Grant Shapps, from the Ministry of Defence, provided advice to the Advisory Committee on Business Appointments (ACOBA)

The Right Honourable Grant Shapps has had a varied career, spanning from politics to business, with several notable appointments and consultancies.

In July 2019, Shapps re-joined the government, returning to his role as Parliamentary Under Secretary at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. However, he left this position in October 2015. Since then, he has been actively engaged in several ventures.

One of his earliest post-government appointments was with Cambridge Aerospace, which he joined in November 2024. Prior to this, he sought the Committee's advice about the appointment, as is customary for former ministers. An accessible version of the corresponding letter is available here.

In April 2025, Shapps took up an appointment with 7percent Ventures, another company in the business sector. As with his appointment at Cambridge Aerospace, he followed the Committee's advice and the conditions imposed, as stated in a letter sent in the same month. An accessible version of this letter can be found here.

Shapps also sought the Committee's advice about taking up an appointment with Avanti Communications Group in October 2017, and a letter containing the Committee's consideration and the conditions imposed on this appointment was sent in the same month.

It is worth noting that there are no search results indicating which company hired Shapps as an advisor and when.

In September 2025, Shapps took up an appointment with 9Yards Capital, following the Committee's advice and the conditions imposed, as stated in a letter sent in August 2025. An accessible version of this letter can be found here.
