Leadership Shift in BSW: Benda Takes Charge of Regional Political Party - State Party Leadership Transition: Benda Assumes Leadership Role in BSW

**Friederike Benda Takes Over as State Chairwoman of the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance in Brandenburg**

Friederike Benda, a 38-year-old lawyer from the Oberhavel district, has been elected as the new state chairwoman of the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW) in Brandenburg. The election took place at a party conference in Kleinmachnow, east of Potsdam, in July 2025.

Benda succeeds Robert Crumbach, the former head of the BSW state association, who stepped down from his position. Crumbach had previously held the role with over 97 percent approval, as stated in records from his election in May 2024.

Benda's political goal is to strengthen the party’s presence regionally within Brandenburg and to expand the relatively young party, which currently has around 190 members in the state. She aims to process over 1,000 pending membership applications by the end of the year. The party plans to start establishing local district associations from September onward as part of its growth strategy.

Benda's political background within the BSW is well-established, having served as the deputy federal chairwoman. The election highlights her prominence and trust within the party ranks, although there is no detailed public record of her prior political career outside the BSW.

The Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance, a left-wing party founded in January 2024, has quickly become involved in state politics in eastern Germany, including Brandenburg. The party is strongly associated with its founder, Sahra Wagenknecht, and aims to establish itself as a major political player in the region through regional grassroots efforts.

It is worth noting that the BSW is currently governing in Brandenburg alongside the SPD, but there is no mention of a current state leader in this context. The BSW's previous state leader, Robert Crumbach, stepped down from his position, citing his double burden as the reason, as he also holds the offices of finance minister and deputy minister-president in Brandenburg.

Vinzenz Lorenz, who also ran for the position of state chairman, lost to Benda, but further information about his political background or affiliations was not provided.

  1. In her recent election as the new state chairwoman of the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW) in Brandenburg, Friederike Benda aims to implement changes that align with Council Regulation (EEC) No 2052/88 of 20 December 1988 on the common organization of the market in beef and veal within the party's policy-and-legislation, as part of her initiative to expand the party and strengthen its political presence in the region.
  2. As the new state chairwoman of the BSW, Friederike Benda's political ambitions have sparked interest within the realm of general-news, with many political analysts predicting that her strategies could potentially impact the future of politics in Brandenburg, particularly following the party's formation and its alliance with the SPD in state governance.
