Browns' QB1 Race Heats Up Ahead of Preseason Game Against Eagles
The quarterback competition in Cleveland is heating up as the Browns prepare to face the Philadelphia Eagles in their preseason game this week.
Currently, Joe Flacco leads the depth chart as the designated QB1 for the 2025 season. The veteran signal-caller has been named the official starter and is expected to start when the regular season begins on September 7. However, the coaching staff has emphasized that all backups should prepare as starters, indicating that the competition will continue during the season.
Flacco did not play in the preseason opener, but other candidates have made their presence felt. Shedeur Sanders, a fifth-round pick, generated significant buzz with a two-TD performance in the game against the Carolina Panthers. Sanders completed 14 of 23 passes for 138 yards, showcasing his potential as a future starter.
Sanders may play in the second half of the game against the Eagles, depending on the availability of other players. Meanwhile, Dillon Gabriel and Kenny Pickett are both limited by hamstring injuries and are not expected to play much, if at all, in the preseason.
