Stars Gather Funds for Gaza Through Musical Event in London, Boosting Millions
In a powerful display of solidarity, the 'Together for Palestine' concert took place at the OVO Arena Wembley in London, United Kingdom. The event, organized by British musician Brian Eno, was attended by over 12,000 people and successfully raised approximately £1.5 million ($1.85 million) for Palestinian-led humanitarian organizations.
Before the concert, a video was released, featuring several internationally renowned artists, including Billie Eilish, Cillian Murphy, Joaquin Phoenix, Javier Bardem, and Eric Cantona, calling for support for Palestine.
The proceeds from the concert were directed towards humanitarian aid efforts in Gaza. Ticket sales from the live stream of the concert generated an estimated 500,000 pounds in revenue, while the remaining funds were raised through donations.
The concert featured performances by both internationally renowned artists and Palestinian performers. Richard Gere spoke at the event, urging the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his supporters to step down. Benedict Cumberbatch recited a poem by Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish titled 'There Are Reasons to Live in This Land.'
Several notable figures, including the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Palestine, Francesca Albanese, delivered speeches during the concert. Albanese noted that numerous experts have referred to the crisis in Gaza as a genocide and emphasized that the deaths are not only the result of bombings but also stem from a lack of water, food, and access to medical care. She also condemned Israel's ongoing actions in Palestine.
Albanese's final message during her speech focused on resilience, hope, and justice for Palestinians. She stated that over 65,000 people have lost their lives in Gaza, including around 20,000 children.
Eric Cantona also spoke at the event, pointing out the contrast between Israel's continued participation in international competitions and Russia's ban just four days after invading Ukraine. He criticized FIFA and UEFA for allowing Israel to participate while Russia was banned.
The donations from the concert were directed towards Palestinian organizations carrying out humanitarian work in Gaza. The specific organizations were not named in the search results. However, the donations were made through Choose Love, a solidarity group supporting refugees.
The 'Together for Palestine' concert was a powerful demonstration of international support for Palestine and a significant contribution to humanitarian aid efforts in Gaza.
