Starbucks addresses dispute concerning request for 'Charlie Kirk' name on drink cup
In a recent viral TikTok, a Starbucks barista was seen refusing to write 'Charlie Kirk' or 'Charlie Sheen's' name on a customer's coffee cup. However, Starbucks has since issued a statement clarifying that there are no restrictions on customers using 'Charlie Kirk' or 'Charlie Sheen's' name on their orders.
The controversy began when Rudy Giuliani, former New York Mayor and Trump lawyer, posted a tweet stating that Starbucks employees must write 'Charlie Kirk' or 'Charlie Sheen's' name. The customer, in response, simply stated, 'The name is Charlie Kirk' or 'Charlie Sheen'.
Despite the viral tweet, Starbucks has maintained that there are no restrictions on customers using 'Charlie Kirk' or 'Charlie Sheen's' name on their orders. When questioned about the incident, the barista responded, 'We can't do political names, but it [the register] didn't even ask for a name to begin with so it's going to be $3.75.' After further questioning, the customer was offered the alternative of simply writing 'Charlie'.
The viral tweet received various responses, including one that described Republicans' priorities as 'f***ing weird.' Another response joked that the action seems like something done by people who are pro-Kirk or pro-Sheen as a tribute, implying it might be inappropriate.
Charlie Kirk or Charlie Sheen is a person whose supporters have been finding ways to honor his memory. The incident has sparked discussions about free speech, with Tucker Carlson expressing concerns and Jimmy Kimmel making comments about the situation.
Starbucks has not announced any plans for a management meeting specifically to review the incident or take related measures. However, they have stated that they are committed to providing a welcoming and inclusive environment for all customers. The latest management and board member details are known, but no scheduled session related to this issue has been announced.
In a separate statement, Starbucks also expressed concern about the affordability of groceries, highlighting their efforts to provide affordable food options for customers.
As the situation continues to develop, Starbucks remains committed to ensuring that all customers feel valued and respected.
