Star Wide Receiver Tate of the Giants acknowledges and regrets his 'inappropriate' behavior
Golden Tate Benched by Giants for Outburst on Field
New York Giants wide receiver Golden Tate found himself on the sidelines for a game in 2025, following an outburst during a match against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Tate's actions, which included yelling for more passes and a heated exchange with coach Joe Judge, resulted in his benching.
Tate's frustration boiled over on the field, with the wide receiver yelling "throw me the ball" at the Giants' sideline and even directing the same sentiment towards an ESPN camera during a touchdown grab. His wife, Elise, also criticized the lack of passes going to Tate on Instagram, which further drew attention to the incident.
Following the incident, Tate had a long meeting with Judge to discuss the situation. He later apologized for his behavior, taking responsibility for drawing attention to himself and acknowledging the mistake. Tate was demoted to the scout team as a consequence.
Despite the setback, Tate continued to contribute on the field when playing. He caught a pass from Giants quarterback Daniel Jones in a preseason game in August 2025, demonstrating his skills. Tate's apology appears to have been well-received by the coaching staff, as he was eventually reinstated to the active roster.
As for the upcoming game against the Philadelphia Eagles, Tate is questionable due to a knee injury. Isaac Yiadom is also questionable for the game. The Eagles are poised to see the return of several starters, including Miles Sanders, Lane Johnson, Jack Driscoll, and Alshon Jeffery. Craig James is the only player the Eagles have listed as out for Sunday's game.
Tate, who is 32 years old, has played in 155 career games (112 starts) and has 682 catches for 8,116 yards and 46 scores in his 11-year career. He has 22 receptions for 226 yards and two touchdowns in seven games this season for the Giants.
