Star Wars enthusiasts are mesmerized by the initial sneak peek of Ryan Gosling in the starfighter role

In a thrilling turn of events, Hollywood heartthrob Ryan Gosling has been cast in the highly anticipated Star Wars film, "Starfighter". The movie, set to release on May 28, 2027, is a five-year leap from the events of Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker.

Disney has confirmed that the Jonathan Tropper-written story will introduce new characters and a brand-new adventure in a period of time not previously explored by the franchise on screen. The movie will also feature a villainous role for Mia Goth.

The announcement sent waves of excitement through the industry and among fans, with the picture of Gosling from the set receiving a lot of traction. The picture, taken on a boat in Mediterranean waters off the coast of Sardinia, Italy, was shared by filmmaker Shawn Levy on Thursday, September 18th.

In the picture, Gosling can be seen alongside actor Flynn Gray. The actor himself has praised the exceptional script, calling it a story with heart, adventure, and original characters, with Shawn Levy as the perfect director.

At Star Wars Celebration 2025, the director and Gosling stood in front of an X-wing on stage, hinting that the film may have something to do with space flight. The movie's release date is likely still too early for a teaser, but fans are eagerly waiting for any updates.

The movie's star-studded cast also includes Matt Smith, Mia Goth, Aaron Pierre, Simon Bird, Jamael Westman, Daniel Ings, and Amy Adams, in addition to Ryan Gosling. With such a talented ensemble and an intriguing plot, "Starfighter" promises to be an exciting addition to the Star Wars franchise.

As for Nicolas Cage's Ghost Rider, there are no reports of him being involved in this new Star Wars project. The "Ghost Rider" movies, released in 2007 and 2012, saw Cage portray the role of the flaming skeleton biker in Marvel's film adaptations.

With the release of "Starfighter" still two years away, fans can look forward to more updates and exciting revelations about this highly anticipated film.
