Star Trek recently unveiled its most appalling bodily transformation horror since The Next Generation, leaving viewers squeamish.

In the latest episode of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, titled "Through The Lens Of Time," viewers were treated to a particularly violent and gruesome scene, marking a departure from the franchise's usual peaceful explorations. This episode, streaming on Thursdays on Paramount+, has been hailed as one of the scariest and grossest in the Star Trek universe since The Next Generation's "Conspiracy."

The body horror in "Through The Lens Of Time" is centred around Ensign Gamble, a medical officer on the Enterprise. During his first away mission, he picks up a glowing orb, which results in a grisly fate - his eyeballs are fried out of his brain. The scene, so graphic that it may be seared into the viewer's brain, has been praised for its intensity and impact.

This is not the first time Star Trek has delved into body horror. In the original series, "The Man Trap" featured a shape-shifting creature that killed by leeching salt from the bodies of crew members, leaving them horribly desiccated with "lurid sucker-marks" on their cold flesh. In Star Trek: The Next Generation, the episode "Conspiracy" is notorious for graphic body horror, including parasitic aliens invading and grotesquely taking over the bodies of Starfleet officers. The violent scene where Lt. Commander Dexter Remmick's head explodes is particularly memorable.

The Vezda, a strange inter-dimensional being capable of telepathy or communicating with the dead, plays a role in both "Conspiracy" and the latest episode of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. The Starfleet crew keeps the Vezda at bay, ensuring this species cannot escape into the galaxy.

The current season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is one of the best since the franchise's return. With its fresh, horror-inspired alien threats and high-concept adventures, it offers a refreshing take on the Star Trek universe. However, it should be noted that the violence in this series is rare for a Star Trek series, and some scenes may be too intense for sensitive viewers.

If you're a Star Trek fan and a Paramount+ subscriber, don't miss out on the latest episodes of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. If you're not yet a subscriber, you can purchase a 12-month subscription for the price of 10. The Essential plan on Paramount+ costs $7.99 a month or $79.99 a year, while the Premium plan with Showtime costs $12.99 a month.

The series may feature the Vezda again before it closes out, promising more thrilling encounters with this enigmatic species. The writer of "Through The Lens Of Time" hopes to see more high-concept adventures like this in upcoming Star Trek shows.
