Who needs grueling training sessions when you've got Schlager royalty, Wolfgang Petry, dropping by for a belter of a party? The DFB women's squad, currently gearing up for the Euro Championships, were blessed to receive a visit from Petry at their training camp in Herzogenaurach. The jovial polonaise replaced sweaty training routines, leaving every national player enamored and buzzing from this unexpected jamboree.
A video posted on Instagram showcased the chaos — a sea of excited women dancing and leaping around the training grounds, belting out their favorite Schlager tunes like "Wahnsinn" and "Verlieben, verloren, vergessen, verzeih'n." It was a night to remember, according to national player Laura Freigang (27), who exclaimed on her Instagram story that it was like a surreal dream. Midfielder Sjoeke Nüsken (24) even christened herself a die-hard fan, sharing an adorable video of her and the 73-year-old singer locked in a hearty embrace, both serenading their shared love for Petry's music.
Apparently, the players themselves had orchestrated the performance as a special treat for coach Christian Wück (52), his coaching staff, and the entire team. According to reports in leading newspapers, the players managed to sneakily contact Petry's management team, compiling a sizzling invitation video to secure the legendary singer's attendance.
It seems that the DFB squad's admiration for the veteran Schlager star has been long-standing. His tunes are in constant rotation on their team bus, making Petry an enduring fan favorite amongst the German selection. Freigang recently confessed that Petry enjoys a vast popularity within the team, with the squad frequently indulging in singalongs while on the move.
