Meet Harsh Dubey: The Left-Arm Spin All-Rounder Gearing Up for IPL 2025
Get ready to hear a fresh name in the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) - none other than 22-year-old Harsh Dubey from Vidarbha!
Dubey, known for his left-arm spin, had a smashing season in the 2024/25 Ranji Trophy, snagging the most wickets in a single edition of the tournament. He stacked up an impressive 69 wickets at an average of 16.98, with seven five-wicket hauls. Dubey also has seven impressive fifties in 32 first-class innings under his belt.
Who's Dubey Stepping In For?
It's an interesting twist of fate, for Dubey replaces another injury replacement player for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). The team initially brought on board young batter R Smaran from Karnataka to replace Adam Zampa. However, Smaran's injury has now opened the door for Dubey, granting him his first IPL contract.
In just seven Ranji Trophy matches this season, Smaran showcased an impressive average of 64.50 with two centuries.
As of now, Sunrisers Hyderabad's chances of making the playoffs are looking grim. With six points in 10 matches, there remains only a mathematical morsel of hope left.
What About Dubey's T20 Record?
With limited T20 experience, Dubey has appeared in 16 matches and chalked up nine wickets at an economy of 6.78, while scoring 19 runs at a strike-rate of 90.7.
He embarked on his T20 journey in the 2021/22 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and went on to contend in subsequent editions of the tournament. His last T20 game came in December 2024, where he exhibited a strong performance by batting at No.8 and dismissing Suryakumar Yadav in the Vidarbha vs. Mumbai match.
