Miami Heat's Tyler Herro Undergoes Successful Ankle Surgery, Set for Eight-Week Absence

The Miami Heat are set to be without their leading returning scorer, Tyler Herro, as he undergoes a successful surgery on his left ankle. The surgery, aimed at alleviating posterior impingement syndrome, was performed by Dr. Thomas San Giovanni, assisted by Heat team physicians Dr. Harlan Selesnick and Dr. Frantz Lerebours.

Herro's recovery period is expected to be eight weeks, which means he will miss a significant part of the early season. However, a specific return date has not been fixed yet and depends on his recovery and team decisions.

Last season, Herro shone brightly, averaging a career-best 23.9 points and making the All-Star team for the first time. He also posted career-bests in shooting percentage, 3-pointers made per game, and assists per game. Notably, Herro had three 40-point games last season, after having just one such game in his first five seasons combined.

Unfortunately, injuries have been a recurring issue for Herro. In his first four seasons, he has missed at least 15 games each time, and 40 games in the 2023-24 season.

With Herro's current contract being a four-year, $120 million deal, talks regarding a potential new extension could be tabled until Herro becomes eligible for a four-year extension next summer. If agreed upon, this new deal could pay him up to nearly $150 million over three years.

The Miami Heat will start training camp later this month, on Sept. 30, and begin regular-season play on Oct. 22 at Orlando. The team will undoubtedly miss Herro's contributions during his recovery, but they will be looking forward to his return and continued growth in the future.
