"Star Guest Horst Lichter Baffled by Idea at 'Bares for Rares' Event"
In an unexpected turn of events, prize-winning mentalist Timon Krause visited the popular German TV show "Bares für Rares" and left the audience in awe with his mind-bending performance.
During the visit, Krause manipulated the host, Horst Lichter, using targeted techniques of mental magic, such as reading body language and facial expressions, as well as subtle manipulations. For instance, Krause made Lichter feel a large soup ladle in a small, black box, which he initially believed to be a small teapoon. This confusion and disorientation were part of Krause's plan to influence Lichter's thoughts, all while the event was being broadcast live[1][2][3].
Krause is known for his sympathetic and unassuming demeanour, which he uses as a "trade secret" of hypnotists and mentalists. He has taught himself the art of mind reading since a young age and is considered one of the best European mentalists[2][3].
At the XXL-edition of the Christmas special of "Bares für Rares" on 13th August 2025 at Gut Nettehammer in Andernach, Krause also presented a family heirloom, a painting by Heinrich Hellhoff. He amazed experts and the moderation team with his ability to decipher hidden messages in body language and facial expressions[1][4].
Meanwhile, a couple from Lahr brought patterns of historical floor tiles from Villeroy & Boch to the show, hoping to achieve a six-figure price. However, the traders were enthusiastic about the tiles but hesitant due to the high price and the amount of material[5]. The couple left the show empty-handed.
On the other hand, Timon Krause had predetermined a selling price of 1,000 euros for the painting he brought, a piece from 1905, which was valued between 1,000 to 1,500 euros by the expert, Colmar Schulte-Goltz[6]. The painting was eventually sold to the trader Fabian Kahl for 1,200 euros[7].
Krause's visit to the show was part of an experiment, as he had prepared Lichter by suggesting he imagine having a swollen hand, which likely caused some distress for the host[3]. Despite initial concerns, the traders were not manipulated by Krause[8].
A couple from Göttingen, however, achieved the highest price with a brooch set with old diamonds, valued at 16,000 to 18,000 euros. They sold it for 12,000 euros, 2,000 euros above their original desired price[9].
Timon Krause's visit to "Bares für Rares" was indeed a memorable one, leaving the audience and the participants in a state of wonder and excitement.
