Virginia Cavaliers Set to Face Stanford Cardinal in ACC Opener

The Virginia Cavaliers are ready to kick off their conference season, aiming to secure a win in their first ACC game against the Stanford Cardinal this Saturday.

The Cavaliers have been impressing in their first three games of the year, with their offense, particularly in running plays, performing exceptionally well. This was evident in their last game against FCS William & Mary, where they set a school record for total offense in a game, resulting in a record-setting 55-16 victory.

Virginia currently stands at 2-1 overall, and their leading rusher, J'Mari Taylor, has amassed 213 yards and six touchdowns. Another notable rusher for the Cavaliers is Harrison Waylee, who has 169 yards and four touchdowns to his name.

At the helm of the offense is quarterback Chandler Morris, who has completed 69.7% of his passes for 670 yards, four touchdowns, and just one interception.

Stanford, on the other hand, comes into the game with a record of 1-2 overall and 1-0 in the ACC, having recently defeated Boston College 30-20. The Cardinal's offense, featuring running back Micah Ford, has been a force to reckon with. Ford has earned ACC Running Back of the Week honours for his performance against Boston College, where he amassed 291 yards and two touchdowns.

Ben Gulbranson is the quarterback for Stanford, having completed 53.6% of his passes for 437 yards, one touchdown, and three interceptions.

The current coach of Stanford, Frank Reich, is set to face Virginia for the first time on Saturday night in Charlottesville, Virginia. This will be Reich's first visit to Virginia since his days as a quarterback for Maryland, where he guided the Terrapins to a 45-34 victory over the Cavaliers to clinch the Atlantic Coast Conference regular season championship back in 1984.

Virginia's coach, Tony Elliott, believes the team has the maturity to achieve their goals. With their impressive performance so far this season and their determination to win the conference opener, the Cavaliers are certainly a team to watch.
