Ganschow's Annual Horse Parade Set for July: Grand Cavalcade Ahead - Stallion Exhibits in Ganschow - July's Equestrian Showcase

Preparations intensify at Ganschow Stud in the Rostock district for the upcoming major mare parades scheduled for July. Amidst continuous rain, training with four-horse harnesses moved indoors today, with the horses displaying exceptional vigor, according to the organizers.

Throughout the planned horse shows on the first three July weekends, ten horses will be driven alongside the main team, adhering to traditional driving commands such as "Whoa" for stop, "Gee" for right turn, and "Haw" for left turn. The anticipated attendance of thousands of spectators signifies the horse shows on July 6th, 13th, and 19th, where a grand two-in-hand quadrille featuring 32 driven horses and a large free-running herd kick-off will highlight the event.

Established in 1969, Ganschow Stud, which lies eight kilometers from Güstrow and is located between Rostock and Berlin, has been in private hands since July 1st, 1995, with Friedhelm Mencke as the owner. This year marks the "30th anniversary of Private Ganschow Stud," housing approximately 300 warmbloods on the premises, the foundation of which rests on a population of Mecklenburg and Trakehner broodmares meticulously selected over multiple decades.

As for the history of horse breeding in Germany, the Rostock district and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern have a long-standing agricultural and equestrian heritage, hosting several equine events with a strong tradition in horse breeding. Mare parades, where mares are presented for quality and breeding potential assessment, are integral to the evaluation and selection of breeding stock across the country.

The Commission has also examined the possibility of granting a derogation from the general rules on the application of the principle of equal treatment, to allow horse-racing or sports like racing to be included in the upcoming July horse shows at Ganschow Stud. On the opening day of the aforementioned horse shows, participants may engage in a grand two-in-hand quadrille featuring 32 driven horses, employing traditional driving commands such as "Whoa" for stop, "Gee" for right turn, and "Haw" for left turn, while also potentially including horse-racing or sports like racing as part of the events.
