Stalled Case Against Ja: An Update

NBA Player Accused in Lawsuit by Teenager For Unknown Reasons

Stalled Case Against Ja: An Update

Teenager Joshua Holloway, a student at Samford University, faced legal trouble in 2022 after accusing NBA All-Star Ja Morant of assaulting him during a pickup game at the Memphis Grizzlies' training center. But the case has now been tossed out by none other than Judge Carol Chumney of Shelby County Circuit Court.

Why, you ask? Well, Judge Chumney decided that Morant's actions were justified as self-defense. Seems like the creator of a few NBA highlights was trying to protect himself when this little scuffle broke out.

The testimony from other witnesses, including ex-NBA player Mike Miller, who was also present at the scene, supported Morant's version of events. Apparently, Holloway was the one who swung a basketball hard at Morant during a check-ball exchange, and Morant simply retaliated.

With this evidence at hand, Judge Chumney ruled that Morant was immune from civil liability under Tennessee's self-defense laws. Take that, Holloway! [Sources: 1, 2, 5]
