Stage 7 of the Tour de France Femmes sees Maëva Squiban secure another victory through daring, long-range solo attacks, reaffirming her dominance.
Maëva Squiban (UAE Team ADQ) has made history in the 2025 Tour de France Femmes, securing her second consecutive stage win in an impressive solo performance on stage 7. The race, which ran from Bourg-en-Bresse to Chambéry, saw Squiban outpace her competitors, finishing 51 seconds ahead of Cédrine Kerbaol (EF Education-Oatly) and Ruth Edwards (Human Powered Health).
The stage began with a large breakaway forming about 25km into the race, consisting of 14 riders including Squiban. Pauliena Rooijakkers set the pace for much of the Col du Granier, dropping riders such as Kim Le Court-Pienaar (AG Insurance-Soudal) and white jersey Julie Bego. Squiban emerged as the strongest on the climb, leaving everyone else behind.
As the race progressed, Squiban put in another acceleration that left her closest competitor, Meijering, behind. She was 47 seconds ahead of the Dutchwoman at the top of the climb. Rijnbeek went solo from the breakaway with 32km to go, starting the 8.9km Col du Granier about 30 seconds ahead of her former companions. However, Squiban's lead only grew as she rode away from Van Anrooij and Dygert during the climb.
Meanwhile, the overall GC battle remained competitive, with Le Court-Pienaar losing contact with the group of GC favorites on the Col du Granier. Pauline Ferrand-Prévot, Kasia Niewiadoma-Phinney, Demi Vollering, Juliette Labous, Anna van der Breggen, Sarah Gigante, and Niamh Fisher-Black were the only riders able to stay with Rooijakkers, making Ferrand-Prévot the virtual leader.
In the final sprint, Kerbaol gained nine seconds plus six bonus seconds on the other GC contenders, closing the gap with Le Court-Pienaar in the GC standings. Nienke Vinke took the white jersey from Bego.
Squiban's "double victory" refers to her back-to-back stage wins, including stage 7's solo triumph that further highlighted her emergence as a key contender in the 2025 Tour de France Femmes. The race continues to heat up as riders push themselves to the limit in pursuit of glory.
