Stage 2 of Vuelta a Burgos concludes with a thrilling photo finish: Matteo Moschetti edges out Matteo Malucelli in the sprint.

In a thrilling finish, Matteo Moschetti (Q36.5) clinched victory in stage 2 of the Vuelta a Burgos. The Italian sprinter edged out Matteo Malucelli (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) by a tyre's width in a nail-biting photo finish[1][2]. Juan Sebastián Molano (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) finished immediately behind the two, completing the podium.

The stage, which resumed from Cilleruelo de Abajo with a total distance of 161km, saw a four-man breakaway consisting of riders from lower division Spanish teams[3]. The breakaway led the race until the final 10km, but the peloton, led by UAE Team Emirates-XRG and Q36.5, managed to pull them back[4].

Several teams took turns leading the charge for the line, but no full lead-out train was established[5]. Despite this, Moschetti, who has won 5 races this year[6], competed successfully against sprinters on WorldTour teams[7] and managed to secure the win.

Gleb Syritsa (XDS Astana) also contributed to Moschetti's win by finishing his turns before the sprint[8]. Tudor and Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale took over the front at times, but it was Q36.5 and UAE who came to the fore in the end[9].

Roger Adrià, who finished safely in the front bunch in stage 2, maintained his four-second overall lead and the purple jersey[10]. The focus of the team will now shift to Damien Howson's general classification ambitions in the upcoming stages.

Stage 3 of the Vuelta a Burgos promises to be a challenging one, with a difficult climbing stage en route to Valpuesta[11]. The results of stage 2 were powered by FirstCycling.

Moschetti expressed his gratitude to his team for their hard work during stage 2, marking a successful day for Q36.5. The team will look to build on this momentum as the race continues.
