The football club AFC Bournemouth has announced ambitious plans for the redevelopment of its home ground, the Vitality Stadium. The proposed expansion aims to increase the stadium's capacity from the current 11,307 seats to a capacity of 20,000, with work set to commence as early as this season.

At the heart of the redevelopment is the expansion of the North and East Stands, which will add an additional 4,340 seats to the stadium. The summer of 2027 has been earmarked for the completion of this phase of the project. However, it's important to note that the planning authority has not yet granted approval for the expansion project.

The expansion will also see the demolition of the current South Stand and the construction of a new 7,000-seat grandstand. This work is scheduled to begin in August 2026. Additionally, a new fan zone will be built in the south-west corner of the ground, enhancing the matchday experience for fans.

AFC Bournemouth has been working closely with the local council on the planning and consultation phase. Councillor Rich Herrett, cabinet member for destination, leisure, and commercial operations, has expressed support for the club's plans to invest in the area and improve the Vitality Stadium.

The local council recognises the value of AFC Bournemouth to Bournemouth, Christchurch, and Poole, with its continued success on the pitch, and its support for local communities. The council looks forward to working with the club via the appropriate planning and democratic processes.

According to a report by the BBC, work on the project is expected to begin between January and March 2026. This will include the installation of a new perimeter fence and turnstiles, an updated ticket office, and a "small-scale extension" to the West Stand. The internal refurbishments of the East and West Stands are hoped to be completed by March 2026.

The expansion of the Vitality Stadium is a significant investment in the future of AFC Bournemouth and the local community. The club's recent successes on the pitch have been enjoyed by the local council, and the expansion is expected to further strengthen the club's ties with the area.
