Stadium Design Analysis: A Possible Appearance for Hertha BSC's New sports arena
The debate surrounding the location of a new Hertha stadium in Berlin is gaining momentum, with various sites under consideration. A convincing concept study for the new stadium has been presented by young architect Lukas Mering, who has proposed a unique design for the stadium.
The proposed design features a freestanding bathtub-shaped stadium shell, complete with a lightweight membrane roof that fits seamlessly into the given shape. The back of the upper tier will be illuminated with spotlights, casting a varied light show through the perforated design of the facade, creating an innovative and exciting visual experience.
The stadium would not only offer a match day experience like no other, with fan shops, a museum, catering, and an imaginative light show, but also ample parking space beneath the surface, a "fan world" with adjacent sports facilities, and training facilities on the site.
One of the main locations under consideration is the Central Festival Site, where Lukas Mering's concept is located. However, it's worth noting that this site could also be used for the construction of new living spaces, which is currently being evaluated.
Another potential site is the Olympiapark, where existing apartment buildings would have to make way for the new stadium. Hertha BSC seems to prefer this site due to its close proximity to a potential performance center and a proven transport connection.
The Olympic Stadium, as well as the site proposed by the BLR Projektplan office at the Avus Nord curve, are among the main locations being discussed. The renovation of the lighting system in the Olympic Stadium is already complete.
Political support for the construction of a privately funded, dedicated football stadium for Hertha BSC has increased. The SPD, Greens, and CDU are in favour of the project, while the Left party remains opposed. Currently, in Berlin, the political parties supporting the construction of a new stadium for Hertha BSC include the CDU and FDP.
The choice of location, however, remains the main sticking point in negotiations. The year 2022 may not bring clarity to the discussion due to numerous issues that need to be resolved regarding the site question.
The new Hertha Stadium concept could bring enormous marketing opportunities, including the granting of naming rights and detailed entertainment, catering, and retail offerings. Deliveries and disposal would occur in the rear part of the tunnel ring, while individual traffic would be directed via a separate road into a car park located under parts of the stadium plateau.
The teams, employees, suppliers, and other individuals essential for the stadium's operation would reach the stadium via a service tunnel, with the logistical part of the stadium operations taking place within the platform.
The third and fourth floors of the stadium will include honor and VIP lounges, technical areas, and spaces for lighting equipment, ensuring a smooth and efficient operation of the stadium.
The Berlin media landscape is abuzz with discussions about a possible new stadium for Hertha BSC, and it seems that 2022 may mark a significant step towards bringing this vision to life.
