- Hori Hori knife
- Short handle shovel
We couldn't get enough of these garden tools last year! Turns out, Mrs. Screencaps became quite the green thumb over the past year, and she fell head over heels for the Hori Hori knife. It's perfect for digging, weeding, and planting in her garden. And let's face it, she might just feel like a superhero when she busts that thing out!
When Predicting the Future is a Hobby
Remember that time emailers called me crazy for including Wendy's on my "5 Franchises That Will Be Out of Business in 10 Years" list? Oh, well...somebody's got to be the voice of truth!
Sure, Wendy's won't be entirely out of business in 10 years, but hey, who said I was a fortune-teller? I was pretty spot-on, though, in noticing the major changes happening at the chain, like the influx of ex-cons and fentanyl addicts in some locations, which, by the way, was no joking matter.
Nowadays, it's no secret that Wendy's is struggling financially, with sales forecasted to be stagnant or even decline slightly in some markets. Don't forget the news back in November when Wendy's announced it would be shutting down 140 stores. It looks like the future isn't too rosy for the fast-food chain. But hey, at least I can say I called it first!
My Predictions for 5 Franchises on the Brink of Extinction
Just kidding! Here are the franchises I actually predicted would face challenges in the upcoming years:
- Bob Evans
- Wendy's (controversial pick; I get it, but I swear, I just never see anyone there these days)
- P.F. Chang's
- TGIFridays (still hanging by a thread, but I need a winning pick in case Wendy's falls flat)
- Denny's (based on the ever-increasing price of breakfast; may eventually lose out to Waffle House and its more affordable prices)
By the way, did you hear that Subway announced it will be closing 600 locations? That brings the total number of Subways in the United States down to a whopping 20,400. Crazy times, huh?
And guess what? Even McDonald's is facing adversity! Why? Simple answer: pricing. When the chain reported lower sales last week, it was clear that people are spending less at the Golden Arches. I'm no economist, but that doesn't look good!
Workplace Friendships: Frenemies or Friends?
We're curious to know what your experiences have been with office friendships! Are workplaces becoming more cutthroat, or are there still a few good apples out there? We asked our readers to weigh in, and here's what they had to say:
- Rick from Pennsylvania has an awesome boss who believes in cultivating strong relationships both inside and outside of work. He hosts an annual get-together at his place for three days of revelry with fireworks or demolition derbies. He even schedules bi-weekly "safety meetings" at a local bar to catch up with colleagues.
- Wes from Texas has seen his fair share of workplace friendships, especially during his time in college athletics. He wouldn't call his current job as academic support quite as social, but he still manages to maintain friendships through his church and family.
- Mark from Florida thinks that workplace relationships have taken a turn for the worse these days; employees would rather communicate digitally instead of having face-to-face discussions. But hey, what do we know; maybe he's just down in the dumps about Wendy's financial woes!
- Mike from Wisconsin, on the other hand, swears by the power of workplace friendships. He works in an office setting and enjoys close relationships with his colleagues. They joke around, converse daily, play golf together, gamble on sports, and even share each other's phone numbers. This couldn't sound sweeter to us!
So, are workplaces becoming more cutthroat, or are friendships still valued? Let us know what your thoughts are in the comments below!
The Great Washington State High School Athletics Transfer Portal Debate
You may have heard rumblings about a new transfer portal for high school athletes in Washington State, but don't be fooled—it's not like the one you see in college sports. Officials insist it's not a transfer portal, but when they have to clarify that, well, it's pretty much a transfer portal.
Tim R., a loyal reader, filled us in on the details: Washington State is allowing athletes to transfer once during their high school career. There's a catch, though—they'll have to forfeit 40% of the season's varsity games in the year that they transfer. Football players, for instance, would miss four games, while basketball, volleyball, baseball, and softball players would give up eight games in a 20-game season.
Clearly, this is designed to deter players from jumping ship mid-season and disrupting team chemistry. But will it work? Only time will tell.
