Details About the VictimsAccording to reports from the Austrian Press Agency (APA), nine of the ten fatalities were students aged between 14 and 17, while the identity of the tenth is still undisclosed - a teacher or staff member. It is also confirmed that these victims were Austrian citizens, except for one Polish teenager. In addition, a 17-year-old French student lost his life in the incident, as shared by his father with the news agency AFP.
Suspect's Suicide Note and Video
On the fateful morning of the shooting, a 21-year-old former student, who had legally obtained a rifle and handgun, carried out an attack at the school before committing suicide in the school bathroom. During a search of the suspect's home, investigators found a non-functional pipe bomb along with a suicide note addressed to his parents. However, this note did not provide any insight into the motive behind the tragic event. A farewell video was also reportedly sent to the suspect's mother.
The Aftermath
A prompt police response evacuated the school and secured the area. The general public is left in shock as authorities continue to examine the suspect's background and motives for the attack. European leaders have expressed their condolences, and Austria has declared three days of national mourning.
