St. Petersburg Metro turns 70 with a nostalgic diamond jubilee celebration
St. Petersburg marked the 70th anniversary of its metro system with a ceremony at Vosstaniya Square station. The city saw its first snowfall on the same day, November 15. The St. Petersburg Metro, the world's deepest, celebrated its diamond jubilee. Soviet-era posters decorated the metro hall, evoking nostalgia for the past. Yevgeny Kozin, the metro's head, kicked off the event by inserting a commemorative token into a turnstile's coin slot. This token was then ceremonially cancelled, marking its final journey. Limited-edition transit passes were issued to commemorate the occasion. These passes allowed passengers to travel back in time, so to speak, experiencing the metro's history firsthand. The St. Petersburg Metro, now 70 years old, continues to serve the city, connecting its residents and visitors. Its unique depth and rich history make it a beloved symbol of St. Petersburg.
