FC St. Pauli Signs Former Blessin Protégé from Belgium - St. Pauli signs Norwegian midfielder Rasmussen to reunite with coach Blessin
FC St. Pauli has signed Norwegian midfielder Mathias Rasmussen from Union Saint-Gilloise. The 23-year-old arrives in Hamburg just a day after the city derby. His former coach, Alexander Blessin, now manages the German side after their successful partnership in Belgium.
Rasmussen and Blessin worked together at Union Saint-Gilloise, where they won the Belgian Cup in the 2023/24 season. Their collaboration has now continued in Germany, with Blessin taking charge of St. Pauli earlier this year.
Since 2023, Rasmussen has played 62 matches in Belgium’s top division. He also featured five times in the Champions League during his time at Union Saint-Gilloise. His move to St. Pauli follows a swift transfer process, finalised shortly after the Hamburg derby against HSV. The Norwegian’s experience in European competitions and domestic cup success adds depth to the squad. His familiarity with Blessin’s tactics could help him settle quickly at the club.
Rasmussen’s arrival strengthens St. Pauli’s midfield options under a coach he already knows. The club will look to his Belgian Cup-winning experience as they push for success in the upcoming season. His Champions League background also brings valuable international exposure to the team.
