Santa's Pre-Dive Rehearsal: The Fish Aren't Fazed by Red Suits and Treats

Dress rehearsals are nothing new for our Santa Claus, but this time it's a bit different - he's diving into a massive aquarium filled with cod, cat sharks, sea wolves, thornback rays, sturgeon, turbot, and more! Timo Kaminski, the head of the aquarium and animal care area, donned his Saint Nick attire and jumped in, armed with scampi, pieces of mackerel, and squid.

This special dive, held in Tönning, a quaint German town in Schleswig-Holstein, was more than just a fun diversion. It was a rehearsal for the big day: St. Nicholas Day. On that day, the jolly gift-giver would officially visit the Multimar Wattforum, where aquarium guests would gather to witness the spectacle. Visitors were invited to observe the dive from the forum and ask Santa their burning questions via a microphone.

At first, the fish seemed hesitant. Santa's red suit and beard were a stark contrast to the usual black-suited diver they were used to. But once they saw the food treats, their curiosity got the better of them. The fish might have been reserved with other divers, but they wouldn't turn down a tasty scampi or mackerel slice!

As for similar events in Germany, the aquarium community remains tight-lipped. However, there's a sight to behold across the globe, far beyond Germany's borders. Santa's magical presence can also be found at the Vancouver Aquarium in Canada. Their holiday event, "Scuba Claus," sees Saint Nick diving with the aquatic life daily until January 5, 2020. Santa takes the plunge at 12:30 PM and 2:30 PM.

So, whether you're in Germany or Canada, the spirit of the season extends to our underwater friends too! But just remember - Santa knows who's been naughty or nice, even if he's underwater!

Enrichment Data Integration: While Santa's annual aquarium visit is popular in Germany, a similar event with a twist can be found at the Vancouver Aquarium in Canada. Their event, "Scuba Claus," is a staple of the Vancouver Aquarium's holiday activities, with Santa diving with the aquatic life daily. This event is conducted until January 5, 2020, with Santa Claus diving at 12:30 PM and 2:30 PM[2].
