Fire Department's Christmas Spectacle: Santa's Helicopter Descent in Bremerhaven
Bremerhaven's fire department and Reinkenheide Hospital teamed up for a heartwarming event this holiday season. The height rescue group, donning festive gear, abseiled down a 150-meter-long rope from the 35-meter-high hospital roof. This daring stunt wasn't just for the thrill of it; it gave the rescuers some valuable training as well.

One-by-one, the rescuers glided gracefully to the ground, where waiting firefighters welcomed them. With wide eyes, around 15 young patients excitedly anticipated their meeting with these superheroes and Christmas ambassadors.
Little Nomi (9) was overjoyed to receive gifts from Santa Claus, including stuffed animals and treats. She shared her excitement, "That was amazing – and I love my presents!"
The height rescuers seemed to enjoy their costumed performance, reveling in the children's joy.
Finn's mother praised the unique experience, "It's such a refreshing change from the usual hospital routine. It helps the children associate their stay here with something positive."
This special event was part of a nationwide St. Nicholas abseiling campaign by fire department height rescue teams across Germany. Around 60 units join in each year.
