The game was marked by two controversial penalties neither team deserved. In the 29th minute, Cedric Teuchert collided with Yeimar on the endline, resulting in a penalty for St. Louis City. Despite VAR not calling for a review, replays suggested minimal contact, at best. In response, Sounders coach Brian Schmetzer pointed the finger at Yeimar for poor positioning.

Four minutes later, St. Louis midfielder Marcel Hartel scored from the spot, tying the game at 1-1. However, the momentum soon shifted as Seattle's Paul Rothrock was overwhelmed by a pack of St. Louis players, resulting in a foul by Timo Baumgartl in the box. Sounders midfielder Albert Rusnák capitalized on the opportunity to equalize the score.

St. Louis' goal was their first in club history at Lumen Field, having joined the MLS in 2023. Sounders' coach Schmetzer made a timely substitution in the 57th minute, bringing in Ryan Kent to replace Rothrock on the left wing. The move paid off as Kent assisted Vargas's goal in the 61st minute, putting the Sounders ahead 2-1.

Musovski added another goal in the 81st minute, bringing his score streak to four games, a career-high for the forward. In the 90th minute, Nouhou sealed the victory with a powerful shot assisted by Kent, marking the defender's second goal in MLS.

Despite the Sounders' enthusiasm for a fifth goal, they were stifled, leaving the final score 3-1. The match was nonetheless a convincing win, seeing Seattle accumulate 31 shots, eight on target, and limiting St. Louis to seven shots, four on target.

Stefan Frei, who played in his 400th match for the Sounders, had three saves throughout the game. The team's focus now turns to a three-match road stint, starting with Houston next week.

In a heartwarming gesture, the Sounders' gameday roster sent a message to Tom Biro, a former co-president of the Emerald City Supporters, who was recently struck by a car in Pioneer Square, resulting in head trauma and other injuries. The players held a banner for their pregame photo that read "Get well soon, Tom."
