St. Laurentius church's organ honors the queen of instruments during Gladbach's autumn season, paying tribute to its majesty.
Prepare for an enchanting musical journey as St. Laurentius Church, Odenkirchen, hosts a series of captivating concerts, aptly titled "Organ - The Queen of Instruments".
The series kicks off on September 5, with a concert performed by the renowned German-Ukrainian organist, Dariia Lytvishko, at 7:30 PM. Tickets for this event, as well as all other concerts, cost 10 Euros. The box office opens at 6:45 PM.
On September 16, there will be a free admission session where Friedhelm Bruns will delve into the fascinating world of the organ. This event is an excellent opportunity to learn more about the instrument before the concerts.
Fast forward to September 21, and St. Laurentius Church will be the starting point for Orgel by Bike, a bicycle tour exploring the organ landscape of the southern Gladbach region. Registration for this event can be done by email or at the parish office of St. Laurentius.
The first concert of the autumn season will take place on September 26 at 7:30 PM. While the organist performing at St. Laurentius Church is not explicitly named, Michael Schuetz is noted to perform on the organ on the same day, but at Münster St. Johannes, not St. Laurentius Church.
However, on October 5 at 4 PM, the closing concert will be dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the Mönchengladbach choir project. The concert will feature the Mönchengladbach choir project, the Gladbacher Kammerphilharmonie, and soloists under the direction of Stephanie Borkenfeld-Müllers. The program includes Felix Mendelssohn's Symphony No. 2 Lobgesang and Psalm 42, as well as the C major overture by Fanny Hensel.
In addition, Dariia Lytvishko will interpret melodies from the Star Wars series during this concert. The concert will also showcase organ works by Louis Vierne, Maurice Duruflé, and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
For those unable to attend the concerts in person, all performances will be broadcast via video camera onto a screen in the church.
The September 26 concert will also feature works performed by Italian composers, Edward Elgar, and Percy Fletcher. Luciano Zecca from Lecco / Italy will perform at this concert.
So, mark your calendars and get ready for a musical extravaganza at St. Laurentius Church, Odenkirchen. Whether you're a music aficionado or a casual listener, these concerts promise to be an unforgettable experience.
