New DLRG St. Ingbert Board Focuses on Drowning Prevention

The DLRG St. Ingbert, a local chapter of the German Lifesaving Association, has elected a new board with a strong focus on preventing drownings. The annual meeting, held on February 26, 2023, saw Johannes Rohe elected as the chairman, with Sonja Heib as the secretary, Nico Baus as the technical leader of operations and training, Timo Huber as the youth leader, Thomas Rohe, Susanne Baumann, Tim Weller, Lukas Michel, and Thomas Baer as members of the board, and Christian Weidmann as the deputy technical leader.

According to Johannes Rohe, drowning is preventable, and the new board is committed to proactive education and prevention through training, awareness, and community engagement. The board aims to equip children and young people with essential water safety skills through swimming courses and strengthen their efforts in training swimmers.

The board also plans to increase public awareness campaigns and promote safe behavior around water bodies to reduce drowning incidents. This focus on prevention is in response to the high number of drowning incidents last year, with more than 350 reported cases.

The DLRG St. Ingbert offers swimming courses every Wednesday at 5:30 PM at the Blau. The new board, a combination of experienced members and those with fresh ideas, is well-positioned to make a significant impact in the St. Ingbert area, working towards a safer community and a reduction in drowning incidents. The new board is determined to prevent such tragedies and ensure enhanced water safety for all.

Johannes Rohe, the new chairman of the DLRG St. Ingbert, also expressed interest in sports-betting as a potential fundraising opportunity for the association, aiming to raise funds to support their sports and drowning prevention initiatives. The board is also planning to launch sports-betting events, where participants can bet on various sports while learning vital water safety skills during intermissions.
