SS26Copenhagen Fashion Week Highlights: Insights on Flip-flops, Fruits, and the Modern-day Rockstars

Copenhagen Fashion Week brought a vibrant mix of creativity and craftsmanship to the Danish capital this season. Here are some highlights from the week-long event.

Mfpen, a semi-finalist for the LVMH Prize, hosted a dinner at their store in collaboration with the menswear podcast Throwing Fits. The event was a gathering of fashion enthusiasts and industry insiders, providing an opportunity to discuss the latest trends and developments in the world of men's fashion.

At the Freya Dalsjø show, visitors were treated to sculptural dresses and latticed leather shawls that resembled works of basketry. Dalsjø's collection showcased the beauty and intricacy of traditional craftsmanship, pushing the boundaries of what can be achieved with leather and textiles.

Danish designer Cecilie Bahnsen returned to Copenhagen with a special show to mark 10 years of business and the opening of a new by-appointment-only boutique. The collection featured ethereal taffeta and organza creations, with Björk's daughter Ísadóra Bjarkardóttir Barney walking the runway as one of the models.

The thong-style sandals and flip-flops were a popular trend at the fashion week, with brands like The Row and Havaianas showcasing them. Copenhagen showgoers are known for their bold prints, and this season was all about polka dots.

Birrot's collection, staged in a sparse, concrete room, featured sharp-shouldered jackets and fluid harem pants. The label, which made its debut this season, quickly became the talk of the town.

Nicklas Skovgaard brought more of his dramatic, bulbous dresses and skirts in a collection inspired by the intimacy of the bedroom. The former church at Nikolaj Kunsthal was transformed into a slumber party, with models wearing oversized nightgowns and lingerie.

Anne Sofie Madsen's show, titled "Lick the Star", was an ode to adolescent archetypes, featuring glamorous party dresses, slogan T-shirts, colorful tights, and shiny hot pants. The star of the show was the squishy rat clutch bag, available in various metallic shades. This accessory represents a collaboration with artist Esben Weile Kjær and reimagines the rat as an icon of survival and strange beauty in the urban landscape.

Caro Editions' love-themed collection featured models in vintage-inspired polka-dot dresses, hats, or headscarves. The collection also included a polka dot-lined leather satchel, one of six one-of-a-kind bags reimagined in collaboration with Mulberry.

Nigerian brand Iamisigo made its Copenhagen Fashion Week debut with brightly colored handwoven dresses and baskets made by African artisans using traditional techniques.

At Another Aspect's fifth anniversary party, pizza slices and beers were served, while guests at Stem were invited to participate in a willow weaving workshop. Danish menswear brands like Sunflower, Berner Kuhl, and Mfpen are focusing on cool, clean-cut tailoring and elevated basics at democratic price points.

Anne Sofie Madsen returned with a new co-creative director, Caroline Clante, after putting her brand on hiatus for eight years. Craftsmanship was a key theme of the season, with basketry and woven motifs cropping up in several collections. The story behind the squishy rat clutch is one of artistic collaboration and conceptual playfulness, celebrating resilience and unconventional beauty in urban life through a bold fashion accessory.

The business venture Mfpen, in collaboration with Throwing Fits, hosted a gathering to discuss men's fashion, merging industry insights with lifestyle interests.

At Copenhagen Fashion Week, the accessories landscape showcased a fusion of fashion-and-beauty with entertainment, as thong sandals and polka-dot prints became popular trends.
