Sri Lanka Secures Super Four Berth with Six-Wicket Victory Over Afghanistan

In a thrilling encounter at the Dubai International Stadium, Sri Lanka qualified for the Asia Cup Super Four stage with a six-wicket win over Afghanistan. The Lankan victory ended Afghanistan's hopes of progressing to the Super Four.

Sri Lanka, captained by Charith Asalanka, had already secured their spot in the Super Four following their victory over Afghanistan in their previous match. The team's performance in the match was pleasing for Asalanka, who expressed his satisfaction after the game.

Chasing a target of 170, Sri Lanka reached home in 18.4 overs, with Kusal Mendis scoring a brilliant 74 not out off 52 balls to guide them to victory. His innings was instrumental in Sri Lanka's successful chase, as they managed to overtake Afghanistan's fighting total of 169/8.

Mohammad Nabi was the top scorer for Afghanistan, scoring 60 runs in 36 balls, including six sixes. However, it was not enough to prevent Sri Lanka from securing the win. Thushara took 4 wickets for Sri Lanka in the match, playing a crucial role in restricting Afghanistan's total.

The Super Four stage of the Asia Cup will commence on Saturday, with the first game being between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. India will play Pakistan in the second Super Four game at the same ground on Sunday. The top two teams from the Super Four stage will play the final in Dubai on September 28.

Afghan captain Rashid Khan was disappointed with the team's bowling performance, which could not defend the total set by the batting lineup. The national team that will play against Sri Lanka in the first Super Four match at Dubai International Stadium on Saturday is yet to be announced.

Bangladesh also qualified for the Asia Cup Super Four from Group B, joining India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka in the next stage of the tournament. The Asia Cup promises to be an exciting event, with the top four teams in Asia battling it out for the coveted title.
