Spurs Push for Timo Werner Transfer

Tottenham Hotspur Relinquishes Purchase Option for Timo Werner

Tottenham Hotspur has announced the termination of their option to purchase Timo Werner, the former German international, following speculation about his future at the London club. The decision marks the end of Werner's 18-month loan spell with Tottenham.

Werner's return to Bundesliga side RB Leipzig is imminent, although his long-term future with the club remains uncertain. Reports suggest that Leipzig may consider accepting a lower transfer fee to free themselves of Werner's high salary, given his limited impact during his time at Tottenham, where he scored just three goals in 41 appearances.

The 29-year-old striker's contract with Leipzig runs until 2026, but interest in his services may extend beyond German shores. The Major League Soccer (MLS) in the United States has been mentioned as a potential destination, with Leipzig's sister club, New York Red Bulls, a potential suitor. werner is also reportedly open to staying in the Premier League, with Fulham and West Ham United among the clubs said to be interested in his services.

Werner recently made headlines after the Europa League final, celebrating on Instagram with a post that read, "As I said, I came here to win titles." However, he was not included in Tottenham's final squad for the competition and had not been registered for the knockout phase. His last appearance for Tottenham was in late February, and a thigh injury has kept him sidelined since.

In December 2023, coach Angelos Postecoglou publicly criticized Werner's attitude. The German forward joined Tottenham on loan in January 2024 after a two-year stint with Chelsea, with whom he failed to establish himself. RB Leipzig brought him back in 2023 for €20 million, but Werner's time at both Premier League clubs has been marked by limited success.

The European Parliament and the Council might express concern over Werner's limited success in the European-leagues, including the Premier League, and evaluate potential regulations to ensure players' performance meet expectations.

As Werner contemplates his future beyond RB Leipzig, European clubs such as Fulham and West Ham United could consider drafting him, aiming to boost their football competence in upcoming seasons.
