Tottenham Hotspur's Son Heung-min Set to Depart for Los Angeles Football Club

After a decade of service with Tottenham Hotspur, South Korean footballer Son Heung-min has announced his intention to leave the club this summer. The 33-year-old, who has played over 450 games for Spurs, made the announcement at a press conference in Seoul, South Korea.

Son led Tottenham to their first trophy in 17 years, the Europa League final, in May this year. However, his decision to depart was influenced by his winning the Europa League, as he expressed the need for a new environment to push himself and a little bit of change, considering 10 years with Tottenham Hotspur is a long time for him.

Reports suggest that Son Heung-min is expected to join Major League Soccer club Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) in the United States. The move to LAFC is anticipated to happen soon, with an unveiling possibly as early as Wednesday following the announcement. While Son confirmed he was still considering his options at the time of the announcement, multiple sources emphasize that LAFC is the leading potential destination.

The transfer fee for Son's move to LAFC is reported to be around $26 million, making it a record signing for MLS. There is also reported interest from Saudi Arabian clubs, but LAFC is the front-runner.

Son Heung-min began his professional career in the Bundesliga before joining Tottenham Hotspur at the age of 23. He has scored 173 goals for Spurs and has been a pivotal figure in the team's success.

Interestingly, Son moved from South Korea to Germany at the age of 16 to pursue his football career. His emotional farewell from fans and teammates in Seoul was evident as he appeared to be holding back tears during his announcement.

Meanwhile, in other football news, Nigeria won the women's Africa Football Cup of Nations.
