Tottenham may bid farewell to teen attacker Alejo Veliz

Looks like Alejo Veliz's shoe may be out the Tottenham Hotspur door, heading for Argentinian club Racing Club. According to sports reporter Juan Pablo De Luca, negotiations are robustly in progress.

De Luca claims Racing Club already offered a formal bid, and the vibe is positive, suggesting a deal might seal by the weekend. Argentinian journalist German Garcia Grove reveals Racing's offer amounts to approximately £3.7 million, snagging 60% of Veliz's rights.

If it materializes, this move terminates Veliz's escapade in North London after just two years. The 21-year-old shifted to Spurs from Rosario Central for an estimated £13 million in August 2023.

Clearly, a shiny future prospect at the time, former Spurs supremo Ange Postecoglou shared it himself when signing Veliz. He praised the lad's potential, "Veliz's profile is outstanding. He's tall, swift, and busts a gut. He's already generating a ripple in Argentine A league and happily welcomed here."

However, opportunities remained limited for Veliz in London. He only made ten appearances in all competitions in his freshman season and found the back of the net just twice, netting his debut Spurs goal in a disheartening 4-2 loss against Brighton in December 2023.

Unsatisfied with playing time, Veliz migrated to Spanish side Sevilla on a half-year loan in February 2024. Donning the no.10 jersey (once Maradona's), his hope was high, but disappointingly, he clocked merely six matches with queasily 31 minutes of play.

Next, Veliz was loaned out again, this time to Espanyol, for the 2024/25 Season. His Espanyol debut was promising, starting eight of their initial 11 league games—still, he only made two more LaLiga starts the remainder of the season. In total, he played in 27 league matches for Espanyol, notching a sole league goal against Rayo Vallecano on August 31. Veliz also registered a hat-trick against sixth-tier side San Tirso SD in the Copa del Rey.

Should this transfer take place, it will mark Veliz's first permanent exit under the tenure of newly appointed Spurs boss Thomas Frank. Frank took over from Postecoglou on June 12 and has since signed French youngster Mathys Tel on a permanent deal from Bayern Munich.

As Tottenham contemplate reshaping their attacking unit, ashing out Veliz opens room for investment in fresh firepower.

The potential transfer of Alejo Veliz from Tottenham Hotspur to Racing Club could signal the end of his short-lived tenure in North London, following two years spent made up of limited playing time and loans to Spanish sides.
