In a memorable shift from high-speed racing, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway played host to the inaugural Wienie 500 on Carb Day, the Friday preceding the iconic Indianapolis 500. This one-of-a-kind event featured six Wienermobiles from Oscar Mayer, competing for the first time in over a decade in a race held on the starting grid just behind the Yard of Bricks.

For those who appreciate the slower pace and agility comparable to a hobo's shopping cart, this unique event offered an enjoyably different spectacle. Each of the Wienermobiles, customized to showcase various regional hot dog styles, including the New York Dog, Chi Dog, Slaw Dog, Sonoran Dog, Chili Dog, and Seattle Dog, set their wheels in motion for a two-lap race around the 2.5-mile circuit.

With the traditional race cars finished with practice for the day, the crowd eagerly awaited the history-making event. As the green flag waved, the Wienermobiles, though substantially slower than the IndyCars, proved to deliver quite a show. The racing was intense, with more overtaking action than anticipated for this weekend's Monaco race.

One race competitor experienced a mechanical issue on the backstretch, causing smoke to billow from its wiener body. Despite this setback, the race continued with the competitors showcasing remarkable resilience.

In the end, the battle for first place was fierce as Slaw Dog triumphed in a photo finish, seizing the title of the inaugural Wienie 500 winner. This triumph will forever distinguish Slaw Dog and its crew, as they will be the ones to triumph in most corporate icebreaker games in the future.

The Wienie 500 served as a delightful and entertaining complement to the prestigious Indianapolis 500, celebrating hot dog culture and racing with a fun twist. The race outfit for the drivers resembled those of Hotdoggers, complete with traditional hot dog celebrations at the "Wiener's Circle." Overall, the first-ever Wienie 500 marked the start of a new and whimsical tradition at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Sports enthusiasts were introduced to an unusual spectacle as auto-racing took a back seat during Carb Day at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Six Wienermobiles, each showcasing different regional hot dog styles, raced in a two-lap event on the starting grid, offering a refreshing change from the high-speed racing usually seen at the venue.
