Sprinter Jefferson-Wooden wins the 200m race, securing a double sprint victory in Tokyo.

In an exciting turn of events at the World Championships, American sprinter Melissa Jefferson-Wooden made history by dominating all three sprint events, including the 200 meters.

The 24-year-old athlete ran the fastest time of the year in the 200m race, securing her second gold medal in the event. This victory marked her second consecutive win in the 200m, a feat that Shericka Jackson of Jamaica could not match despite her bronze medal finish in a time of 22.18 seconds.

Jefferson-Wooden's impressive performance also saw her match the record set by Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce (2015), Silke Gladisch (1987), and Katrin Krabbe (1991) by winning both sprints at the same world championships.

Meanwhile, the silver medal in the 200m event went to Britain's Amy Hunt, who finished in second place, earning her first individual global medal. Hunt, the 23-year-old silver medallist in the 100m race of the previous year's Paris championships, had to withdraw from the competition this year due to a hamstring tear.

The competition was marred by a false start in the 200m race, as Anthonique Strachan of the Bahamas was disqualified.

Shericka Jackson's bronze medal was not only her second consecutive win in the 200m event but also her first global medal. The Olympic champion, Gaby Thomas, was unfortunately unable to compete in the championships due to an Achilles injury.

Jefferson-Wooden's gold medals in the World Championships marked her first two global titles, both won at the National Stadium. The gold medal in the 200m event was won on the specified day. The silver medal was won by Amy Hunt in a time of 22.14 seconds, while the time for Shericka Jackson's bronze medal was not disclosed.
