Sprint triumph of Arnaud De Lie secured in Namur during Grand Prix de Wallonie
In a dramatic turn of events at the Tour de France ProSeries race in Namur, Arnaud De Lie of Lotto emerged as the winner, overtaking late attacker Victor Lafay (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale) in a fierce sprint finish.
The race, which started in Dison, saw a five-rider breakaway go clear early on, consisting of Edoardo Zamperini (Arkéa-B&B Hotels), Kamil Gradek (Bahrain Victorious), Martin Urianstad Bugge (Uno-X Mobility), Kenny Molly (Van Rysel Roubaix), and Bram Dissel (BEAT). However, Dissel was dropped from the breakaway with 36km to go, and no new information about the race position of the other riders in the breakaway was provided.
As the peloton closed in on the breakaway, Tim Wellens was at the head of affairs for UAE Team Emirates XRG. The race heated up significantly during the final two climbs: Tienne aux Pierres (3.1km at 4.8%) and Citadelle de Namur (3.1km at 4%). It was during the latter climb that Lafay made an early move, but he was quickly chased by Alpecin-Deceuninck and Cofidis.
In a thrilling finale, Lafay's legs gave out, allowing De Lie to launch a furious acceleration. Emilien Jeannière (TotalEnergies) put up a valiant fight but finished in second place, while Biniam Girmay (Intermarché-Wanty) claimed third.
The results of the race were powered by FirstCycling. Congratulations to Arnaud De Lie on his well-deserved victory and a successful Tour de France ProSeries race in Namur.
Meanwhile, it's worth noting that Jonas Vingegaard, the 2023 Tour de France winner, was not present in this race, which took place before the races occurred in Namur. His absence did not affect the excitement and competitiveness of the ProSeries race, however, as the peloton did not catch the escapees immediately, ensuring a nail-biting finish.
