Spring turkey hunting event initiated with Merle Hacker, delving into the current turkey season in the Bluegrass region

Join Kentucky native Merle Hacker and special guests as they embark on an exciting adventure for the sixth season of "Struttin' in the Bluegrass", a series dedicated to the thrill of turkey hunting in the Bluegrass State. The series will be livestreamed daily on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube accounts, providing a unique insight into the world of turkey hunting.

Merle Hacker, a lifelong hunter and wildlife biologist, grew up chasing small game and had his first turkey hunt in 1998. Hacker is passionate about protecting Kentucky's outdoors and sharing his passion for the hunt with the next generation.

The spring turkey season in Kentucky spans 23 days, running from April 1 to May 4. Kentucky's statewide spring harvest limit is two legal turkeys. A legal turkey is defined as a turkey that is male or has a visible beard.

Hunters can purchase licenses or permits through the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources' MyProfile online portal or at vendor locations across the state. The department's homepage has a Hunting tab for easy access to the Wildlife Management Area and Public Lands Search. A list of license agents by county is also available on the department's website.

For those new to turkey hunting, the Spring Turkey Hunting webpage provides safety tips and links to helpful information. The webpage also contains information about season dates, license, permit, and hunter education requirements. Kentucky Fish and Wildlife advises consulting the Spring Hunting Guide for current regulations. The updated hunting guide is only available online.

The "Struttin' in the Bluegrass" series will feature hunts on both public and private lands throughout central Kentucky. Each day of the event, a new video highlighting that day's hunt will be posted on YouTube in the evenings.

Turkey hunting enthusiasts can participate in "Struttin' in the Bluegrass" until April 16. As a bonus, Merle Hacker, being a presenter of the series, is likely involved in showcasing bluegrass music, adding an authentic Kentucky flavour to the series.

The Kentucky Fish and Wildlife's website provides a wealth of resources for spring turkey hunting, making it easier than ever for both experienced and novice hunters to prepare for the season. So, grab your gear, brush up on your regulations, and get ready to join Hacker and his guests as they search for gobblers across the Bluegrass. Happy hunting!
