From 2026, still up to 30 jobs at Spreewald cucumber company - Spreewaldkonserve Shifts to Seasonal Model, Cuts Jobs
Spreewaldkonserve, the renowned pickle manufacturer based in Golßen, will undergo significant changes starting 2026. The company, owned by the French food conglomerate Andros since 2021, will shift to a seasonal business model, focusing solely on pickles and reducing its workforce to up to 30 employees.
This shift comes after the company previously announced plans to lay off around 200 permanent employees due to substantial losses. The new model will see the closure of its facility in Schöneiche and the hiring of seasonal workers, primarily from Poland, during the harvest months of July and August. This change marks a departure from the company's year-round operation, which previously included the production of red beets, red cabbage, and sauerkraut.
The Spreewald pickles brand, a protected designation within the European Union since 1999, will continue to be the company's core product. The new seasonal operation aims to preserve the brand's heritage while adapting to the company's financial realities.
Beginning 2026, Spreewaldkonserve will operate seasonally, employing up to 30 people and focusing exclusively on pickles. This change follows previous plans to reduce the workforce and reflects the company's efforts to maintain its iconic brand while adjusting its meta business suite.
