Spouse of Delta State Governor's Aide Accused of Homicide
In a heartbreaking turn of events, the Special Adviser to the Governor of Delta State on Trade and Export, Shimite Winifred Bello, is no longer with us. The tragically deceased trade and economic expert was the victim of a violent domestic dispute.
Human rights activist and the Delta State Governor's aide, Harrison Gwamnishu, confirmed the devastating news on his Facebook page on Monday, April 21, 2025. Another Delta human rights activist, Comrade Victor Ojie, echoed the news. "Marriage isn't a forced commitment. It's better to walk away from an oppressive marriage than to lose your life as a result of it," Ojie wrote poignantly.
Tameta Sunday, an aide to the late Shimite, also confirmed her death, stating that allegedly, the husband was responsible for her demise. His post reads, "It's difficult to type RIP boss, knowing full well that the gentle monster, a husband cloaked in a pastor's cloak, terminated all the promising ventures we had planned together."
Bello's role in Delta State saw her as the Coordinator of the Delta State UNIDO Centre and the focal person for the implementation of the Federal Government's Social Investment Programme in Delta State. She was known for producing and presenting "African Pot", a TV documentary dedicated to promoting traditional African cuisine, tourism, and culture.
In addition to her public-facing roles, Shimite was a member of the Steering Committee of USAID/NEXTT - Lakaji Trade Corridor, a member of the Board of Directors of FESECA - Foundation for Economic Change in Africa, and served as a Contributing Editor on Travel and Tourism with Daily Trust, Leadership, and other notable publications.
