August Spotlight on Television Shows - Spotlight on August's Episodes
August is shaping up to be an exciting month for television viewers, with several new series premiering and the return of some beloved shows.
Firstly, fans of the time-traveling drama "Outlander" will be thrilled to know that a spin-off series, titled "Outlander: Blood Of My Blood," is set to premiere on MagentaTV on August 9. Created by Matthew B. Roberts, the creator of "Outlander," this new series follows Jamie Roy as he takes on the role of Jamie Fraser's father, Brian Fraser. Harriet Slater portrays Jamie Fraser's mother, Ellen MacKenzie, while Hermione Corfield plays Claire's mother, Julia. In an intriguing twist, Julia travels through time to the year 1714.
For those who prefer action-packed and epic series, "Chief of War" might be just what you're looking for. Set in the late 18th century Hawaiian Islands, this series offers stunning battles and a thrilling story based on true events. Jason Momoa stars as the lead character in this series, which premieres on Apple TV+ on August 1. The series provides a breathtaking backdrop and features the cast speaking Polynesian for much of the production, with subtitles recommended.
Meanwhile, Netflix's most successful English-language series to date, "Wednesday," returns for its second season on August 6. Jenna Ortega reprises her role as Wednesday Addams, now a star at her Nevermore Academy. Wednesday's brother Pugsley Addams (Isaac Ordonez) and her mother Morticia (Catherine Zeta-Jones) are now permanently present at her school. The second season also features new cast members including Haley Joel Osment, Christopher Lloyd, and Steve Buscemi.
In a different sci-fi realm, the Netflix TV series "Alien: Earth" is set in the year 2120, two years before the original 1979 "Alien" movie. The plot follows a young woman named Wendy, a synthetic hybrid with an adult android body but the consciousness of a child, created by the Prodigy Corporation. When a Weyland-Yutani spaceship called the USCSS Maginot crash-lands on Earth, Wendy and a ragtag group of tactical soldiers investigate the wreckage. They discover several dangerous alien creatures, including the iconic xenomorph, which represent a terrifying threat to Earth. The story also involves five powerful corporations vying for technological supremacy, particularly the race to develop hybrid androids that promise immortality.
In "Alien: Earth," a mysterious spaceship crashes in a metropolis, leading to a scary, thrilling story of survival and corporate rivalry linked to the emergence of Weyland-Yutani and new android life.
Lastly, "Chief of War," a series premiering on Apple TV+, and "Outlander: Blood Of My Blood," premiering on MagentaTV, are set to debut on August 1 and August 9, respectively. Meanwhile, the second season of "Wednesday" will be available on Netflix from August 6, and "Alien: Earth" is now streaming on Netflix.
I'm not going to let these exciting television events this August slip through my fingers, especially the premiere of "Outlander: Blood Of My Blood" on MagentaTV on August 9. I'm also eagerly anticipating the return of "Wednesday" on Netflix from August 6, and the series "Chief of War" on Apple TV+ on August 1. Movies-and-tv enthusiasts like me mustn't miss out on these entertaining shows.
