Revitalized Tunes: "Hot Together" by The Pointer Sisters Soaring on Spotify Post-"GTA 6" Trailer Debut

Pointer Sisters' track faces backlash on Spotify - Spotify to Host The Pointer Sisters' Music Library

Get ready to groove to some old-school tunes! A track from the American band The Pointer Sisters, "Hot Together," is creating a buzz following the release of the hotly anticipated "Grand Theft Auto 6" trailer.

The "GTA 6" trailer dropped on Wednesday and showcased this forgotten gem from 1986. Since then, song enthusiasts worldwide are jumping on the "Hot Together" bandwagon. Prominently appearing in the near three-minute trailer, the almost-40-year-old tune seems to strike a chord with gamers.

In just a few hours after the trailer's release, streams for "Hot Together" on Spotify skyrocketed, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter, by a mind-boggling 182,000%.

IGN quoted a representative from the company, stating, "‘Grand Theft Auto’ pierces through pop culture like few other things. Music has always held a crucial role within the series, so it's fantastic to see both new and avid fans engaging with this classic masterpiece in such a memorable manner."

Unfortunately, the original members of the band can't reap this sudden success. June Pointer passed away in 2006, with Bonnie and Anita following in 2020 and 2022, respectively. However, the band's oldest member, Ruth, who's been with the band since 1972 and continues to perform, carries on The Pointer Sisters legacy. Since 2002, she's been performing alongside her daughter Issa, and since 2009, with her great-niece Sadako Pointer Johnson.

The "GTA 6" Trailer Sweeps Gamers off their Feet

Rockstar Games's second "GTA 6" trailer has already captured the hearts (and screens) of millions up-to-date (as of May 8, 12 pm). The video boasts a staggering 85 million views on YouTube alone, and The Hollywood Reporter estimates that total views across various platforms have reached around 500 million.

Fans are still buzzing with excitement for the new installment of the open-world game series, and delays in the game's release only fuel anticipation further. Originally, a release was scheduled for this year, but a setback now has the target date fixed for May 26, 2026.
