Controversial Track by the Pointer Sisters Sparks Debate on Spotify Platform - Spotify to Host the Pointer Sisters' Music Collection
gonna make you leap for joy, y'all 'cause a classic tune by The Pointer Sisters is back in the spotlight! Jump (For My Love) and I'm So Excited may be familiar tunes to many, but thanks to a recent viral twist, it's another song, Hot Together from 1986, that's commanding attention on streaming platforms like Spotify.
Boom! Hot Together, a nearly 40-year-old track, is prominently featured in the latest "Grand Theft Auto 6" (GTA 6) trailer, and it's driving gamers wild. In just a few hours after the trailer dropped on Wednesday, the number of streams for the tune skyrocketed by a whopping 182,000 percent on Spotify, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Mega!
As IGN reported, a spokesperson for the company said, "Grand Theft Auto" slices through pop culture like a hot knife through butter. Music has been closely tied to the series since the start, so it's awesome to see both old and new fans connecting with a timeless classic in this manner."
Unfortunately, the original members of the band can't revel in this resurgence of popularity. June Pointer passed away in 2006, and Bonnie and Anita followed in 2020 and 2022. But, Ruth Pointer, the eldest sister, has stuck with the band since 1972 and still performs today. Since 2002, she's been accompanied by her daughter Issa, and since 2009, she's performed with her great-niece Sadako Pointer Johnson as The Pointer Sisters.
Trailer Sets New Viewership Records
The second trailer for GTA 6 by developer Rockstar Games has taken both the gaming and streaming worlds by storm. As of May 8, 12:00 PM, the trailer has amassed a staggering 85 million views on YouTube alone. When you add the views across all video platforms, The Hollywood Reporter estimates that the total view count is already close to 500 million.
The hype around this new installment in the popular open-world game series is stronger than ever, even after news broke last week that the release of GTA 6 has been delayed. Originally expected to hit the shelves this year, the new release date is now May 26, 2026.
