In the world of high school sports, Eastern Iowa saw some thrilling action last night. Let's dive into the results of the Volleyball and Cross Country competitions.

Volleyball

In a closely contested match, the Class 3A 5th-ranked Hawks faced Mount Vernon. Despite 21 ties throughout the game, Mount Vernon emerged victorious, improving their record to 7-6. The Hawks, now standing at 14-4, suffered their fourth loss of the season. Meanwhile, Western Dubuque defeated Linn-Mar 3-1, and Maquoketa Valley lost to Cascade 3-1, while Independence was defeated by Marion 3-0.

Cross Country

Starmont's Invitational Cross Country series saw some exciting races. In the girls division, Waukon took the title with 40 points, while Starmont's Lauren Krogmann claimed the individual victory with a time of 19:13.85. West Delaware placed 3rd with 92 points, and Brynn Kartmann of the Hawks finished 8th with a time of 21:21.44.

In the boys division, Vinton-Shellsburg clinched the title with 44 points. Jagger Timmerman of Starmont finished 16th with a time of 18:19.94. West Delaware placed 7th with 164 points, and Nolan Hemann finished 18th with a time of 18:23.14. Notably, Danny Dudzik of Beckman Catholic finished 9th with a time of 17:53.31, and Steffen Goerdt of the same school finished 17th with a time of 18:22.18.

The small schools division was won by Sumner-Fredericksburg, and Beckman Catholic took the small school title. The large school title was won by Anamosa High School.

In the individual races, Starmont's Cross Country invitational saw Norah Peyton of West Delaware finish 5th in the girls division with a time of 20:53.63.
