Unnamed Sports Psychologist Accuses Former Spurs Player of Indecent Exposure During Therapy Sessions

According to a filed lawsuit, a sports psychologist claimed the player displayed himself during therapy sessions and alleged that the team's leadership, despite "numerous complaints about Primo's sexual misconduct," failed to take action. However, no actions were reportedly taken.

Primo denied the allegations.

Adelina Simpson, a spokesperson for the Bexar County Sheriff's Office in Texas, told CNN that the office had initiated a preliminary investigation into the claims.

CNN requested a comment from Primo's attorney regarding the investigation.

The lawsuit alleges that Primo first exposed himself to the doctor, as stated in the court document. Hillary Cauthen reportedly mentioned in a private meeting in December 2021 that the revelations continued and were becoming increasingly extreme, and that Primo's behavior was also out of control under the team's leadership for months.

Cauthen's attorney Tony Buzbee revealed at a press conference on Thursday that Primo's team informed him that they had lost trust in Cauthen, a licensed and qualified clinical psychologist.

As his contract was set to be extended in August, the decision was made not to renew it, as per a petition filed at the Bexar County District Court.

"Primo's behavior exceeded what is normal or acceptable. His behavior shocked my conscience," said Buzbee.

"I also want to say that the Spurs' behavior and their handling of this situation is abhorrent and completely irrational."

Primo was dismissed by the team on October 28. RC Buford, CEO of Spurs Sports and Entertainment, said in a statement that the roster changes were "in the best interest of the team and of Joshua," without providing specifics regarding the decision.

Primo's attorney published a statement saying, "Josh Primo was on the brink of a promising career, but he was devastated by these false accusations and released by the Spurs."

Cauthen's allegations were described as "either a complete fabrication, a blatant lie, or pure fantasy" by Primo's lawyers.

"Josh Primo is a 19-year-old NBA player who has faced numerous traumas and challenges throughout his life."

Their statement continued, "He is now the victim of a former team-appointed sports psychologist who exploited racist stereotypes and prejudices for his own financial gain."

Buzbee said his office was in contact with Bexar County law enforcement officers and planned to file a misdemeanor charge against Primo for multiple counts of indecent exposure.

"We hope that the appropriate authorities will take action," Buzbee said at the press conference on Thursday.

CNN requested comments from the Spurs and the NBA.
