Sports organization, Sporting, secures Francisco Trincão's complete transfer agreement
Sporting Secures Full Ownership of Francisco Trincão for €21 Million
Sporting has completed the acquisition of the remaining 50% economic rights of footballer Francisco Trincão from FC Barcelona, bringing the total cost to €21 million.
The Portuguese club initially paid €10 million for half of Trincão's rights when he joined in the 2020/21 season. The latest acquisition, announced on Friday, cost an additional €11 million.
Trincão, who started his career at Sporting de Braga, has been instrumental in the club's success. In the 2022/23 season, he scored 11 goals and provided 17 assists in 54 games. If extrapolated to 54 games, his total goal contributions for the 2023/24 season would be approximately 15 goals and 13 assists, based on his performance in 49 games so far.
The acquisition pertains to the economic rights of the 24-year-old Portuguese international, who has represented his country 11 times and scored two goals for the national team.
Trincão's contributions have been key to Sporting's double championship wins in the last two seasons and the 'double' in 2024/25. His contract with the club extends until June 2027.
The agreement for the acquisition was reached between Sporting and FC Barcelona, with the details announced to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Prior to this acquisition, Sporting already owned half of Trincão's rights. The remaining €7 million was paid for the acquisition of the remaining 50%.
Trincão spent the 2021/22 season on loan at Wolverhampton from FC Barcelona before returning to Sporting. His total goal contributions for Sporting in the last two seasons amount to 21 goals and 26 assists.
